About the Event

The Instructional Mini League is designed to help you elevate your curling skills and prepare you to join a club league. Open to all curlers, no experience necessary, with priority given to participants from March’s Learn to Curl classes. The league features two groups of eight players each, with each group playing every other week. Participants will attend three on-ice sessions and one off-ice class. The off-ice class will be both groups combined and held at Keeping Together on May 27th, 6:30-8:30.

This page is for Group B. Start date: May 8th. If you don’t like this start date, try Group A.

The Program

The Instructional Mini League will expand on the Learn to Curl class. This 4-session development league will teach you all the fundamentals of the game in a relaxed, slow-paced setting. Each week will focus on a new aspect of the game. Every session will be approximately one hour of on-ice instruction and one hour of gameplay. During the game, participants can ask questions, take mulligans and pause the game for more detailed breakdowns of what is playing out.

On-Ice Sessions

  • Session 1 – 5/8: Delivery and curling etiquette
  • Session 2 – 5/22: Line of Delivery and Curl
  • Session 3 – 6/12: Sweeping and Weight Judgement

Off-Ice Session

Held at Keeping Together 6:30-8:30

  • Session 4 – 5/27: Strategy, Scoring, Q&A

Each session will be followed by “broomstacking” at Keeping Together, the age-old tradition of socializing and recapping the game over drinks. This is a great way to break down the game, ask more questions and learn about other curling events.

Pickup games will be offered every week during the instructional league. During the off weeks of instructional sessions, you are welcome to play in the pick-up games.** Sign up for the pickup games via Bench App.

There will be no Instructional Mini League 5/29. There will most likely be a pickup game, see Bench App for details.

Registering for this event reserves your spot; however, it is not complete until payment is made to the GCCC.

*Participants must be at least 16 years old
**To play in pickup games, you must have attended a Learn to Curl

Who is this league for?

Anyone who has participated in a Learn to Curl or Try Curling event that is ready to develop their skills and join a club league. Please note that priority will be given to participants who have attended both a Try Curling and a Learn to Curl.

How should I dress?

Dress in layers, its starts cold but once you start sweeping, you will warm up. Comfortable, flexible athletic wear is best. Please avoid wearing jeans

WHAT KIND OF SHOES SHOULD I WEAR?

Flat sneaker-type shoes with light tread are best. Heelded shoes, aggressive, worn, or dried out tread are very slippery and dangerous. Shoes must be clean and free of dirt and debris, as foreign material will ruin the ice surface.

What equipment do I need?

Nothing! We provide all necessary equipment. If you are ready to go all in and get curling shoes you will be able to learn much faster. Buying only a broom will be of little help. Helmets can be worn for extra safety.

What is the Cost?

The cost of the class is $100 for 4 sessions. This will be paid to the GCCC. We will let you know when they are ready to accept payment. Payment is the only way to guarantee your spot. Curl Santa Fe does not charge any additional fees and does not get any part of these fees.
